3 tips to get back to the gym after a vacation
Getting away from it all – from everyday stresses, your job, the commute – can be utterly blissful. And from ice creams around the pool to indulgent meals out, sampling the food and drink on your getaway is all part of the experience. The last thing you should be feeling is guilt for enjoying yourself on holiday.
But, if you’ve returned from your travels feeling heavier and unmotivated (it happens), there are plenty of ways to ease your way into a healthier routine again. Actually, September is actually the best month for that. So, here are our top tips to get back on track and back to the gym after a vacation, quickly and painlessly.
Back to the gym after a vacation
1 – Plan ahead
Sometimes, fitness feels so unattainable after a vacation that we don’t know where to even start. Well, start by making a plan. Write down a list of your fitness, health or performance goals and what you want to achieve out of getting back to the gym. There are plenty of apps to help you stick to your plans along the way that can help. Or, simply joining EVO: our state-of-the-art equipment and our EVO app can be the motivation alone.
2 – Tackle your nutrition
Being away from your regular routine and surroundings can make it easier to plump for fast, convenient foods. Especially at the airport. Beer and pastry at 4:30? Anything goes. Of course, this means we often consume more fat, carbs, salt and sugar. So, even if you can’t bear the thought of the gym, at least take some time to pick out fresh, whole foods and prepare some nutritious meals. Often, taking control of what we eat can have a naturally motivating effect on our physical activity, too.
3 – Set a schedule and make it a routine
If you’ve slipped into vacation mode and the last thing you want to do is exercise, you’re going to need something more solid than a mental affirmation to get you to the gym. Setting a schedule can help you create a routine you’ll stick to. There are a few practical ways to make setting a new schedule more effective:
- Choose a fitting hour for you. Luckily for you, EVO is open 365 days a year from 6h30 to 23h. This leaves you have plenty of hours to choose from. Sticking with a specific hour will help you restart or create a routine, and it’s this consistency is that will lead to better results.
- Work with a personal trainer. Our personal trainers can help you create expert training plans tailored to your needs and goals. They will also take the stress out of planning and give you the best chance of fitness success.
- Find a workout buddy. You hear this one again and again for a reason: staying accountable is one of the best ways to ensure you actually turn up to the gym in the first place (which can be the hardest part). No one wants to let a friend down. We suggest you find someone with the same goals and interests and make a pact to show up for each other.
